Renewable energy is the way to go, this is obvious! We cannot continue burning fossil fuels forever, it just won’t happen. Coal is cheap, yes, there is plenty of supply, yes. Solar and wind technologies make sense, they are still expensive and the pay-back takes too long in my opinion, but once solar becomes more efficient and wind becomes easier, they will take off.
This article is mostly Europe oriented but it applies to the U.S.
